Why are they still calling it the Roadster? It’s a fucking coupé.
PT Barnum’d them
You have to see this as a kickstarter project. For anyone wondering: the base model will not have rockets, suction rockets might be available for rich folks who race on private tracks, flying rockets might be available but the only use case would be some guy who wants to fly over his own ranch. These rockets only has a few seconds of flight time (a few jumps), and during the demo, there was no one in the car.
Sometimes fascists need to learn expensive lessons.
We are going to build something. We dont exactly know what it will be, what specs will be, or what it will look like or if it will be built at all
Give us more money.
Announcing the rugpull beforehand is very ethical of them
Noooo, you don’t say?
Let’s say they actually did release this and it worked safely. What’s the use case for being able to jump 100 feet? I can’t think of anything other than to skip in front of the car in front of you in heavy traffic, or in other words, to be a colossal jackass to other road users.
If it ever gets produced, it will never be road legal. Its a meme to drive stock up, this is the use case.
Of course, I am thinking of a future where Trump & co. isn’t president who can allow something like this on the streets.
None of the rocket versions (and probably also the “suction” version neither) will be road legal. The cold gas thrusters they use are incredibly loud (and unsafe for anyone standing around) and the fan system spits out any debris on the road towards the cars behind it.
FDA has decided it is okay to poison food and EPA has decided it’s okay to poison the water…What makes you think automotive safety laws.will.be upheld?
The car is ridiculously expensive. So it’s not like a poor will.be driving it causing problems for.the rich.
Pretty sure society has decided rich people.can.cause problems at the expense of others and commit crimes as much as they want.
wait. they said the actual car will have them? I assumed it was only for the show
Well the one shown was only for show, but they announced they plan on selling it as an actual car. (It has to be said, that they already had announced a new roadster car 10 years ago and haven’t produced even one production ready car… so better not take their plans seriously at all)
Not to mention where the hell does the car land, and how does it guarantee it won’t land on another car, a pedestrian, etc.
Sudden high pressure gas release tends to deflesh anyone next to it. Yes it is as bad as it sounds.
It was a dumb stunt and one that doesn’t show of the models unique abilitys or features. Supposedly if you are a stunt driver you can get it for stunts but I can’t see many being sold as drivers like to use old cars because it’s not a big lose when they make a mistake and crash.

Somehow even as a stunt car it’s less impressive for the fact that the amount of precision required means that the whole thing is computer-controlled anyway. If I go to see a stunt car show I want to see stunt drivers performing with their cars, not just sitting in them while an AI does everything.
I was looking forward to the reports of Musk influencers getting themselves killed.
If he ever COULD deliver, it would make the most hilarious “migrant caravan” if a bunch of Mexicans were flipping their cars over the Border wall.
And you can do it once and then you need to refill for 7 hours. I’d just a stunt

Elon claimed he never meet Ghislaine Maxwell or Jeffrey Epstein, then this photo came out proving he had at least meet Ghislaine and his ex-wife confirmed they’d stayed at Epsteins mansion in New York so he obviously knew him.

And we know Elon’s brother and investor Kimbal Musk not only knew Epstein but dated some girls he set him up with and they talked about Kimbal introducing him to Elon.

Then this email allegedly between Jeffrey Epstein and Elon Musk discussing an apparent kung fu practice with Ghislaine Maxwell was introduced as evidence at a trial. Elon claims its fake but he’s been caught lying so often it’s hard to trust his word anymore.
Not to mention the “flight” capable model is purchasable by invitation only.
Just like the previous Roadster, this will never see the light of day.
The previous Roadster was at least a good looking car that never existed on the market, unlike the new abomination that may also never exist on the market.
The first generation Roadster wasn’t designed by Tesla, it was a Lotus Elise with the combustion drivetrain removed.
No, there was the 2nd generation roadster that I suspect the only model of it Musk missed an entire planet with and is now in orbit around the sun.
That’s where all the money from the reservations went, at least it made it to space and didn’t just explode or crash XD

You deserve more upvotes than you have
Lemmy generally doesn’t like Seinfeld, on account of the whole dating-a-schoolgirl thing and the being-kind-of-a-dick thing
Yeah it sucks that he and kramer are both shitty irl
Its a great show and very funny even on a recent re-watch a few years back.
At least she was legal vs. Epstein Island that Musk wanted onto so badly.
Ah yeah. This particular clip is good though. I find it really useful with IT support as well
Eh, I’m happy it got as many as it did. I’m sure a lot of people wouldn’t want to because they’re (very justifiably) against Jerry Seinfeld. I just think the bit itself is funny.
I mean, nobody ever accused Larry David of not writing funny material
I popped onto Reddit to see what the Tesla sub thought of this. The amount of fools who actually seem to think this flying car will ever be made is comical.
They weren’t on Yandex I guess.
Now imagine the same idiots with actual flying cars.

Not juat that. It’s the same as with the cyberfuck. They daydream about kickflipping over cars in traffic and imagine how everyone point at them thinking they are cool as fuck. Disgusting.
like the OG cybertruck he unveiled in 2017, but never actually went through with it, until 2023, and hyperloop before that.
They only need to dupe very few to rake in lots more cash for elon. Can you imagine the huge amounts of energy required to flip, flop and fly that car? You’d probably get about minutes per charge or per tank.
Probably not even that. I have a miny whoop, it’s battery is 1/3 it’s volume I’m sure much more it’s weight. It only flys for 3 minutes. I can’t image a Tesla would stay in the air for over a minute.
TSLA got a bump in price during the presentation but it closed the day even lower than it opened. :)
The presentation was in the evening, even after regular after-hours trading. (Livestream was scheduled at 8:55 p.m. Eastern Time.)
But you’re not too far off, the first prices recorded in pre-market trading the next morning reflected a bump, and then that day closed lower than the previous day.

(the vertical bit is the jump from last after-hours price to first pre-market price)
Thanks! I was looking for the graph but was too ignorant of the whole thing to post my own source. Just saw the times and graph on Bluesky yesterday.
