‘Forever chemicals’ sprayed on almonds, grapes, tomatoes and other crops as activists warn of ‘obvious problem’
California farms applied an average of 2.5m lbs of PFAS “forever chemicals” per year on cropland from 2018 to 2023, or a total of about 15m lbs, a new review of state records shows.
The chemicals are added to pesticides that are sprayed on crops such as almonds, pistachios, wine grapes, alfalfa and tomatoes, the review of California Department of Pesticide Regulation data found. The Environmental Working Group nonprofit put together the report.
The risk for uptake of PFAS is likely higher in water-rich fruits and vegetables, because water attracts the chemicals, and research has shown PFAS may concentrate at dangerous levels in some produce. The chemicals also pollute water supplies and present a higher risk to the often low income and Latino farmworkers.
Yo dawg, I heard you like poison in your poison so we poisoned your poison so you can get poisoned when you eat.

Jesus christ. Why are the people that sold this shit on yachts and not in graveyards.
California is usually the state that’s like “Nuh-uh buddy, not here, take your poison to some other state”
Not for PFAS though?
They tried, but Newsom vetoed the bill that gave additional restrictions to PFAS, IIRC. That was this year or last year, which is why this is so relevant
Hope is food is poison then. Does not eat same foods we do?
So what benefit does the pfas have, why are they using it? Does it allow the pesticide to stick to the plant better or something or are pfas chemicals actual pesticides in and of themselves?
In case anyone is wondering why USDA organic popped off back in the day it was because of this.
No one is buying organic produce because they think its healthier than GMOs. People were just smart enough to know eating a mouthful of Monsanto acid everyday probably isn’t healthy, no matter how much the company claims herbicides and pesticides don’t affect humans.
The entire idea that “organic is healthier because its natural” was a scam manufactured by these companies to overshadow the fact that they shower their crops with ridiculous amounts of anti weed, anti insect, etc with GMO crops modified to be able to resist increasingly stronger solutions.
And not that USDA organic is even the correct solution. Its still overpriced and doesn’t solve the underlying issue.
