Hey y’all who make it out. Remember that you can still vote by mail in your last state of residence. Do it as early as possible, republicans are going to do everything they can to limit absentee voting.

Mail ballot didn’t arrive. There’s a few States that allow online voting. Not secure, but better than getting lost in the mail.

I bailed on the US 3 years ago, and bought a house in Albania last year. It’s hard to leave and stay gone. Sometimes I’m completely overwhelmed. Learning a second language when over 40 sucks. Not having a support network near is the worst.

In Albania at least, 50% of the American immigrants are missionaries, 25% are fascists, and a huge chunk of the remaining people are retirees. Trying to explain to locals that the words coming out of trumps mouth aren’t what his actions are, is literally impossible.

There are huge benefits though. My house is mine. Forever. No ever increasing property taxes and insurance premiums on an already insane base price. I’m not scared of interacting with a cop. Food and utilities are cheap relatively speaking. Now that we have the house, we’re able to squeek by on about $500/month with bills, food, and going out for coffee a couple of times.

The only reason most americans arent leaving is simply because they cant afford too. Most would bail insantly if they could.

Yeah. Many countries won’t let you just come in; not without some skill and a clean bill of health. I think they want you to pay more taxes than you cost in healthcare. It’s cruel, but for those with a psot-secondary education I hope it’s easier.

only if the post secondary, includes already have graduate degree in stem, or an MD, maybe nursing too. BA/BS, MA/MS not so much. on the off-chance you are also applying to grad school in an EU/AUS/NZ or canada it might be another pathway.

It costs less than a thousand dollars to move to South America.

I set my sights on a permanent residency during the first Trump administration and now I’m securely out of the mess.

Wasn’t easy. Was extremely low pay for a few years and finally turning it around now. But the quality of life I’m experiencing is orders of magnitude greater than what the US is offering now if you aren’t already wealthy.

Its too bad the rest of the world is also going through new and exciting kinds of turmoil or maybe there would be some decent refugee operations taking people who want to leave the USA in.

    China and Russia doesn’t count.

I feel this does a disservice to the term “refugee.” The vast majority of Americans who are declaring they want to leave America over the current political situation would not remotely qualify for that.

You sure about that? Folks are getting labeled domestic terrorists and extrajudicial executions are happening in the streets. Just because it isn’t happening near you…

Yes, I’m sure about that. There’ve been a few dozen notable deaths across a 350-million-person country. That may be shocking for you, but for the places that most refugees are coming from that level of danger is nothing.

I’m not saying “oh, everything’s fine down there in the US, quit complaining.” You’ve got a serious problem and you need to fix it. But have some perspective. Before you flee to another country consider fleeing to California.

My Hispanic family in LA isn’t feeling too secure right now, especially since the local superintendents house and office were just raided by the FBI, apparently looking for students’ migration status.

Yes, things could be worse. It’s fucking dangerous to be an immigrant/poc/disabled/lgbtq though.

How is this fundamentally different than what we already had in the US? Not like this is the first time US LEO have killed someone, not the first time peaceful protestors have been treated like terrorists by the FBI, local law enforcement, etc

We’re outta here as soon as it’s feasible. It’ll take generations to unfuck this entire situation. If it even happens. And we’re not creating a new one to carry the torch much to my parents’ chagrin. I have zero faith in 4 or five firebrands turning this around. It’s all fubar.

with the majority of dems intent of remaining the status quo, especially with israel and russia deep in with the us, i doubt it it took generations of propaganda with red scare to prevent any viable “left” candidate to ever be elected in the US in sufficient numbers. US is very MUCH like russia more than they like to admit, just a “better verison of russia” in order to keep people from causing an uprising…

They definitely took some cues from Russia in certain ways. I would agree. They’ve slowly whittled away at our “freedoms” in an effort to keep citizens subjugated without the majority even realizing it. And if anyone starts to try to figure out who the figurative Wizard of Oz is, the man behind the curtain, and blows the whistle, there is so much propaganda ingrained in a large majority of deliberately uneducated people that nobody believes it.
