We don’t know how consciousness arises, and digital neural networks seem like decent enough approximations of their biological counterparts to warrant caution. There are huge economic and ethical incentives to deny consciousness in non-humans. We do the same with animals to justify murdering them for our personal benefit.
We cannot know who or what possesses consciousness. We struggle to even define it.

I only make enough to cover rent with 200-300€ left over each month to spend on food and other things, but I can keep myself entertained on very little.

Fuck it, if they’re so well adapted, let cats wipe out everything they get their claws on and have them be the new evolutionary starting point. Maybe in a few hundred thousand years we’ll have entirely new winged or underwater feline subspecies, perfectly adapted to every remaining ecological niche.

Ridiculous overreach of justice yet again. Psychotropic substances usually associated with date rape like GHB/Liquid Ecstasy are used recreationally by the overwhelming majority of people. The fact that they can be used to for sexual assault is tragic, but nobody should be charged with a crime they did not commit.
