That’s not mutually exclusive to the fact that men lack metacognition. Not being encouraged to express your emotions isn’t the same thing inherently as not having self awareness.

    Fuck yes.

I get so much more flack for being an outspoken woman than any sexist man does.

    Sorry, not sorry.

    Putting it up:

ONLY WOMEN AND TRANS+ INC NON BINARY PEOPLE ARE ALLOWED TO POST. WE ARE A WOMEN ONLY COMMUNITY.

If you do not fall within the above umbrella, then thanks for your interest, but please do not post here. You’re always welcome to be over at !dadforaminute@lemmy.world , though! They’re very welcoming and inclusive :D

    Onto the post itself:

In the same vein: something that made me think, is that when places try to ban ‘revealing clothing’, they’re not helping women to be safe. They’re moving goalposts of what is appropriate, and making those who wear just as normally (but now claimed to be revealing) seem like ‘valid targets’ for predation.

Banning it doesn’t help. People have been unkind to many gals regardless of whether they wore corsettes with enormous dresses and fluff, or whether they were nudists.

In similar vein, banning trans women from basic access to services such as toilets is also creating its own problems. It doesn’t help anybody; and it never will. It only creates gender polices and apartheid.

If a misogynist is so independent, then why fear women being assertive and happy?

Imho, sexual education shouldn’t just be mandatory for all early teens, but also explicitly discuss mutual consent in a calm spirit.

I was mostly thinking of reactionary schools, libraries, etc. in the West where they ban dyeing your hair, or not covering your shoulders, ban books (for discussing LGBTQ+ and feminist topics), actually.

And yet they also raise daughters who recognise the wrongness and speak and act against it. Almost like there’s an element of autonomy in your average human

Doing bad things is also bad. If I murder someone my parents won’t be on trial.

If you a raise your daughter to be a Barbie doll you should be on trial.

What’s wrong with being Barbie? She’s smart, cool, has a huge wardrobe, a large variety of careers, and loves her friends.

Ugh, like yes explicitly training to be hyper aware is bad and causes anxiety.

But like, many societies will just teach this via the education/social systems.

And in some societies being a woman and not being aware of how to react to flirt/class/advancement is not just getting yelled at but can end up with jail/physical violence where you are in the wrong.

I’m all for making powerful men get to the hyper awareness so that we can change this bull crap.

But I don’t like blaming a mother/parent for teaching their children how to survive the world they live in.
