OVERKILL / Starbreeze Entertainment announced that PAYDAY 2 has dropped support for their Native Linux version with a big update to the game with 64bit support.
People seem not to know but this comes from a major underlying engine upgrade from diesel done by a hired group of maintainer modders group. This included file size reduction, DX12 (4gb limit ram is gone, mods can finally get better) and more.
Native Linux wasn’t available for the last heists anyway. Proton is good enough to be better than how diesel ran on Linux natively why allowing for the modders to focus on improving the engine to the best of their abilities.
The game engine diesel was a dead end engine that the game is stuck with as it’s jank is too core for the game, like stingray in this regard, it’s basically only used by fat shark and one other developer.
It’s a shame native support was dropped but It was worse than proton by a longshot and with it being dedicated the modders can focus on improving the engine to make a better experience for both
