Kayaking. I have arms of steel and spooky pictures of abandoned boat houses.

Walk around a library or bookstore. I love books. Being surrounded by books is my happy place.

Knitting or crochet but where the pattern is very simple and easily becomes a reflex - think crochet granny squares or knitting a scarf in easy rib (just 2 rows to memorise: 3k 1p to end, next row 1k 1p; 3k 1p to end).

It’s a wonderful way of emptying your thoughts.

    • Taking a walk around the block helps me when I’m drowning. If it’s not enough, I will call someone while I am halfway through the walk. This helps me to return with a different perspective.

    • I keep a notebook to scribe my unresolved fears and feelings into. It took me a year in therapy to feel safe enough to write down how I feel. I had been too scared that my mother would find the book and haunt me with everything in it.

    • I write down my goals onto loose college-ruled three hole punch paper.

I timestamp all of my written work (YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM) because it feels loving and helpful to the future version of myself.

That hobby I started of carving signature chops is really good for erasing anything bugging me because I have to focus on the chisel cutting through rock to actually get the output I’m looking for.

Rock doesn’t care about your feelings. Chisels don’t care about your feelings. You need to set them aside to work.

Going to the gym helps for sure. Sad? Gym. Angry? Gym. And then hitting a PB because I channeled the feelings in to lifting as heavy as I can… Even better.
