This is a well researched subject, plenty of studies have come up with that conclusion, it’s called the “gender fear paradox”

They mostly explain it by the fact that men take more risks and go at sketchy places alone that women tend to avoid
Men face a higher overall risk of general physical assault, primarily perpetrated by other men, whereas women experience vastly higher rates of sexual assault and intimate partner violence committed by men. General crime data indicates that men are more frequently victims of public and stranger violence, while women face disproportionate risks of domestic and sexual abuse. [1]
