  • I started with Ubuntu 7.10. I could not believe you just “apt-get install vlc” and then its done. Everything else was not that easy, but still somehow possible. I never participated in a community, but I mostly used two wiki’s. The German ubuntuuses wiki and of course Archlinux. Even with FreeBSD I looked up Archlinux Wiki often. I don’t use Arch since longer time, but their wiki is great to learn and get questions answered. So try using it often. Gentoo wiki is also great.

Also, Lemmy should be fine for questions.

  • You triggered my brain with the word “RAM”. When I bought my Thinkpad, I had two options. Stronger CPU, but 16GB RAM installed or weaker CPU but 32GB RAM. In the end I chossed the stronger CPU version, because I can buy more RAM next month. Good CPU is great for development and you can’t upgrade it. Month later the DDR5 prices were insane. So, I still have only 16GB. 2GB are for VRAM, so there are my 14GB. And I am struggling with that. Jetbrains + Browser with many tabs open can be enough to reach the limit.

I hope so much that China develops good RAM and then floods the market. I don’t care if it would be little bit slower, I just need more RAM. My Thinkpad supports up to 64GB…

  • Reddit is just Reddit. It never represents the thoughts of a country. The USA would have tremendous potential if a bolshevik revolution would happen there. And there is also a reason why the actual imperialist hegemon is fighting that strong against socialism. This country is fucked, its really bad for the people there, so of course the superstructure is trying its outmost to repress, shaping the whole culture pro capitalist.

But things can change fast. I always remind how weak the bolsheviks were, but certain things turned it from the februar revolution to the october revolution. Lenin himself didnt belive in witnessing a socialist revolution, it would be a task of the younger generation. We know he was wrong with that. But exactly this is the reason why we need to study the bolshevik revolution in detail.

If the USA would witness a bolshevik revolution and then become the Soviet Union of Socialist States, it would be a major win world wide. I am sure the people of the US want an alternative, however the Überbau or Superstrucutre is so freaking aggressive, its probably even a separate topic.

  • You dont say to a construction worker “You need to secure your workspace, because the russki-kaputski will come and push your ladder away”, this would be plain stupidity. Same goes for cyber security, I dont care where attacks may come frome - they can and mostly are spoofed anyway. Securing your data and having the autonomy about has the same level as the lock on your door, so no one can go in. Biometric Authentication is insecure. It is comfy, yes - I like to use it on my notebook, dont have to type long password everytime I use sudo. Face isnt good either, you can provide a photo as well. And lets not forget, that the liberal law can force you to provide your fingerprints or face to unlock your phone. As example it is absoluetly legal to do so in Germany, they take your finger and unlock it.

Giving your biometrics to the goverment is worse. Some liberals pretend, that the character of state could never change, it will always be a bourgeois democracy with guaranteed liberal rights. Its not like the bourgeois doesnt democracy would never “misuse” it (I hope it is clear what I mean), but what if there will be a switch to plain fascism in 10 years? Then they have the biometric data already and can use it. Imagine Hitler had such means.

My arguments against it are based from a IT-Security point of view. Just take a book about cryptographie and you’ll find enough explanations. This whole topic is not new. Usually its start to combat the distribution of documented abuse of children in media form. Then “murder is bad as well, it can be added as well” followed by “heavy crimes”. Salami slicing tactic.

  • As a westerner, you are part of a class that subjugates the global south.

Nations of peoples and genders are definitely classes.

Classes are the result of the social division of labor under the constraint of economic scarcity. Members of different classes differ economically from one another in terms of their position in the system of social production. Or to let Lenin speak:

The fundamental criterion by which classes are distinguished is the place they occupy in social production, and, consequently, the relation in which they stand to the means of production. Appropriation of one part or another of the social means of production and its application to private enterprise, to undertakings organised for the sale of the product, is the fundamental distinction of one class in present-day society (the bourgeoisie) from the proletariat, which is deprived of the means of production and sells its labour-power.

    source

Gender and nation are not a class. This is in total contradiction to Marxism. You can talk about an Australian working class, but you can’t talk about Australians as a class per se. That makes no sense. Same with gender.

If one is not to consider nations as classes then what part of marxism would national liberation theory come from?

It is about oppressed peoples in an colonised country fighting against imperialism, even if this means that the working class allies itself with the own bourgeoisie. But this does not create a class of its own. In the end the own bourgeoisie has to be fought as well.

What of Engel’s Orgin of the Family with regards to gender (which has since been developed further)? Think about the consequences here if you do not think about them as classes.

This book does not state genders as classes. It shows clearly what the origin of family is and how it is strongly connected to private property.

This is not wild stuff. This is basic marxism. Otherwise you will end up with the likes of the ACP and Trots

Definitely not, really. It is pretty clear, what a class is. You can’t call everything a class. That seems to be antagonising with something.
