I’m currently growing 16 heads of garlic on my balcony, 2 per pot in square pots that are about 1 cubic foot each. I don’t have a ton of sun, so the heads don’t come out huge, but committing to growing one thing in bulk like this means I won’t end up with a tiny amount of 8 different vegetables like last year. I’ve always heard it’s best to start garlic in fall, so mine are about a foot tall right now.
ETA: Oh, make sure to get some cloves of a nice hardneck variety to start your plants. The cloves are much bigger and nicer to work with than the softneck kind you buy at the grocery store.

I get where you’re coming from, but if we’re talking about some 6 year old budget smartphone or something, will there really be enough interest in maintaining the firmware? It seems just as likely that you’d be blowing the source code open for people looking for hacks.
