I have empathy. I am not trolling. Just having a discussion online. Tone doesn’t always come across well oger text. Just thought it was important to share that I really really don’t think people who say things like this are saying empathy is bad.

And I’ve met plenty of people who can pick up on people’s moods and know that people who mock others’ misfortunes are cruel without calling themselves empaths.
For what it’s worth, that’s essentially how Wikipedia describes it:
Empath (/ˈɛmpæθ/; from Ancient Greek ἐμπάθεια (empátheia) ‘passion’) is a term for people who are claimed to have a higher than usual level of empathy.
In parapsychology, the mechanism for being an empath is said to be psychic channeling; psychics and mediums say that they channel the emotional states and experiences of other living beings, or the spirits of dead people, in the form of “emotional resonance.” Studies of such claims have found them to be the result of mundane empathy and charisma, with no actual supernatural capabilities involved.
And I’m saying that’s not what I typically think people mean when they say they’re an empath. I mean they mean something more than that.
2·22 hours agoIt’s so infuriating to me that there isn’t a way to just encrypt traffic without verifying it’s part of a chain. By all means, give a nag warning in browsers, but ugh, I think that ship has long since sailed. Plus, realistically, you’d need just as many scary warnings to deter the average user that they might be getting MITMed.
It’s always been my understanding that the term empath implies some sort of higher sense that not everyone is capable of. Similar to some extra sensory ability. Though I may be incorrect. I’ve never read anything jabbing at “empaths” as jabs at empathy as a concept.
Edit: Phone autocorrected “empaths” to “empathy”, oops.
Can you not issue your own certificate? I guess it depends on how many devices and what types of devices need to connect. It’s be a one time effort per device (importing your own self signed cert) versus one time effort per service per X days.
30·1 day agoThe article is from December 2nd, though maybe the conference is from much earlier, so barring that… The fucking UN said on September 16th that “Israel has committed genocide in the Gaza Strip.” It’s absolutely infuriating that people are still viewing this as something controversial or debatable. I was naively hoping that once the UN used the big G word (genocide) that more moderate politicians (being incredibly generous calling them moderate) would finally start acting like it’s a genocide.

It’s like, I get the idea of saying “this user is searching for a program they don’t have, let’s link to it” and then they’re like “oh what if we searched for everything?” and then someone else is was like “And what if we put ads in to monetize it!” Then that last person probably got a bonus.

It’s very funny to me that you do something petty and get caught, and your only defense is “oh yeah? Well it’s actually sad that you noticed I did this.”
Mind you, from your comments we can see that you’re just an incredibly aggressive person and frequently get downvoted. So of course you would want to know who it is and harass them.
The passive aggressive thing going on is harassing me by down voting all my posts. You’re just upset that you got caught.
You’re exactly the reason public logs are an issue. You think every thing is a slight against you. Don’t say stupid shit, don’t get downvoted, what a shocker.
Obviously you think public logs are a problem because you got caught being petty and passive aggressive.
Last time I checked it out there was a lot of racist spam. It seems better now. Maybe it was one bad actor or the spam filter is better.

11·3 days agoAmerican here, have heard orders of magnitude more people complaining about vegans than I’ve ever heard vegans complaining.
As a small business owner myself it’s attitudes like this that make the rest look bad.
After going through three days of my comments to down vote them all, you don’t need help making yourself look bad. You handled that quite well yourself.
Says the person who is still going through my comment history and down voting things. Every accusation you’ve made is a confession.
