I landed on the waiting list like many of you, but that’s okay, it gives me more time to read feedback and experiences from folks who buy one in the first round.
While we wait, what games do you actually want to play on the Frame when you get yours? Please specify if it’s a VR title or non-VR title (unless it’s a super popular one like Hades or Portal that everyone will recognize).
I went through the Steam store “great on frame” listings as well as the overall VR listings, and IMO it’s quite a mixed bag. There’s fairly good variety but many of the “overwhelmingly positive” titles are relatively old, like even 2017-2022. And many of the newer titles don’t seem to have a lot of players yet.
Of course, if you have no intention of ever buying a Frame or want to discourage others or even hype some other device, please just refrain from commenting. This simply isn’t the thread for you.
It’s interesting that some of these replies are listing dozens of games that they’ve played, as if dipping into each one and then moving on to another.
In the “flat screen” world I have maybe four favourite games with thousands of hours in each - and I’m not getting the impression that VR people are finding games with that level of interest.
To add to what IamSparticles said: a lot of the good VR games are either limited in scope mechanics based games or tell a linear story – Half Life: Alyx for example. I.e. limited replayability.
Multiplayer games, simulators, and open world games are the ones that are ones that get hundred of hour. It’s a smaller pool, but they’re out there.
Oh and the … adult “experiences” for those into that sort of thing.
The vast majority of games aren’t designed with long-term replay value in mind. Period. That goes for both flat and VR alike. The overall pool of VR games is just obviously smaller, and since many are designed with room-scale movement in mind, you wouldn’t generally be playing them for long periods without getting tired. If you’re looking for VR games that you can spend a lot of time on, I would suggest seated simulation titles that have almost infinite replayability:

Just like with non-VR games I’m sure there’s a lot of variation. Some titles are designed for long branching narratives that invite replay. Some are inherently multiplayer and get most hours from that. Some have endless modes you can play over and over to best your high score. And some have none of those things and just a single definitive ending after 5-20 hours.
