well that is something you don’t hear everyday

we went to library to drop off some batteries and electricals for recycling and we had a look around , we heard two guys using computers introduce themselves

one guy said he was the Imperial Emperor of Russia , and meant it, other guy said , In Australia? First guy said Australia too. Not everyday you witness a schizophrenic with delusions. I imagine it would be really debilitating 😔

It is. Untreated schizophrenia can ruin people’s lives easily, it’s easy to become homeless, addicted to drugs, lose a job, be taken in by a cult or just straight up taken advantage of.

      personal anecdote

But it’s also sad, even with support they can still just refuse treatment if they’re not a threat to themselves or others. My mum isn’t violent (except a couple of times), she’s just utterly lost in her delusion. A special kind of delusion that reinforces her idea that getting help will actually hinder her abilities: she believes she’s psychic and communicate with spirits and angels, she also believes she can see evil spirits and demons. On medication she cannot see or hear anything, so she thinks the meds are blocking her psychic abilities, so in order to stop the evil American psychics from psychically assaulting her, she has to be able to perceive the threat so no meds.

Can’t reason someone out of an idea they didn’t reason themself into.
