Heyy DT people! Sorry to just drop in out of the blue and vent to you, but I got some kinda bad news today and I wanted to share if you all don’t mind :/

I’ve been getting migraines recently and put off going to the GP. I had an appointment booked in for tomorrow afternoon, but was out today in a shopping centre with a Specsavers, so on a whim I decided to book in just to make sure my glasses don’t need adjusting and eye strain isn’t contributing to the migraines, since I figured the GP might ask if I’ve ruled that out
Got a bit of a double whammy from the optometrist, apparently I had a lazy eye when I was a child which I never had corrected, and I’ve permanently lost part of my vision in my left eye. I can still make out shapes, but I was struggling to read even the top row of the letter chart they had.
Even worse than that, they tested clouding over my right (good) eye with a foggy lens thing, as opposed to just blacking it out and that was really really bad. I couldn’t even make out shapes on the letter chart, it just looked like a yellowish white sheet of paper
I’m not even exaggerating/joking, If the vision in my right eye ever degrades, I think I’ll become legally blind. I couldn’t see shit at all with that eye clouded out. I could barely even make out large shapes further than a few metres away
Worse still, they decided to test my pupillary dilation with a torch and apparently my left pupil isn’t constricting properly in the light, and wasn’t reacting the same way as my right pupil did. He ran a bunch of other tests to me (fuck those air puff machines, seriously), and ended up calling someone else for a second opinion
Unfortunately he said he didn’t know why it was doing that, so he gave me an urgent referral to see an ophthalmologist this week
I guess on the positive side, if my pupil is staying wide open in bright light, that would probably explains the migraines. I did feel a migraine starting after he turned off the torch (complete with a nauseous feeling, so fun!) and had to take some pain relief when I got home. Also positive is that he said the vision in my right eye is good, only needs a very minor prescription. Sadly he also said even with glasses, my left eye will never be as good as my right eye. I’ve permanently lost some amount of vision in that eye
Thinking back, for the last year or so, I’ve been closing my left eye in sunlight and just been walking around with only one eye open. It was just an automatic reflex and I never thought that might be problematic. And the migraines I’ve just ignored because they were tolerable ish with 600mg ibuprofen and 1500 paracetamol.
Funny enough, when I was a young kid and learnt how to wink, my mum never could and used to tell me it was a stupid and pointless thing to learn anyway. I guess I’ve proven her wrong
On top of this, my oven packed up and I got a text today that they can’t source a part so they need to replace the entire thing, with a 2-3 week wait
This day’s just been a pile of shit :/
Sorry to vent to you guys like that, I don’t really have anyone I can tell
cat tax
(Don’t mind the weird collar and synthID watermark thing - I edited out a tag he has with the Google magic eraser thingy because it has some personal info on it
Sucks to hear about the eye stuff, I hope you’ve been able to catch it soon enough to do something about it. They have crazy technology with eyes these days. Good to hear things are at least going alright otherwise
Welcome back Baku! That eye stuff sounds pretty full on. The eye doc sounds like he knows what he’s doing and is committed to helping. Which is not the worst outcome in the world.

What a magnificent CatTax!
With you on hate for the air puff eye gizmo. My measurement is at a level to worry about very bad possibilities. Much sympathy!
