Starship Troopers is so gender neutral the characters all shower together.

For real though, the female characters are badasses, and their gender is never referenced. They introduced a female starship captain and I was like “damn, this is what Voyager’s Janeway should have been.”

That’s true, even in the book they say women make better pilots.

The antithesis to Starship Troopers, the Forever War, not only has strong female characters but at one point everyone is gay. It was written as a criticism of the military and war though.

Its why the ghostbusters remake pissed me off so much. Oh they’re women so they must be neurotic, mocked and struggle. On all levels. More than the original all male cast. Because feminism or some shit. We can’t just have them be confident, competent and achieve. Piss.

For someone who grew up on Ripleys it makes me want to start skinning writers. Thank god Afterlife came out

lol, I feel the exact opposite and I grew up watching the old movies and tv show. Ghostbusters and TMNT were my childhood loves and still are my adult loves.

Answer the Call was funny, goofy, and kept the spirit of the original. The women may have been neurotic, but they were also strong, competent, and said fuck it to everyone who kept putting them down. I watch it as often as I watch GB1. It’s a great watch for the gym, it pumps me up and makes me laugh.

Afterlife and Frozen Throne were just nostalgia baited, coming of age, cash grabs that were nothing like the originals. After how ATC was dragged down by misogynists, I was very excited for Afterlife, I wanted to love it. I bought it immediately when it was available on iTunes and watched it immediately. The first thing I said when the credits rolled was “What the fuck was that trash?” because it was more like a teenage Goosebumps “horror” than an actual Ghostbusters movie. I hated it so much, I have zero desire to watch Frozen Throne.

one of the reasons people often repeat for Alien having such good women characters is all of the characters were written as gender neutral, with the gender of the character determined by casting. im not sure if its true or not, but its interesting to think that the best women characters are just written as people rather than caricatures of womanhood.

How do we make this fun for the whole family? We can’t sir, this is a war game, exclusively for fathers and sons. But we have to show he has a family, we can’t just have some single father alone with a young boy, what will people think? I’ve got it, sir, we’ll put his wife in the picture, but she’ll be doing the womanly business what comes natural to that species. Throw in a daughter, too. Playing the game, sir? By God no.

The only kind of feminism that should appear in the media. I despise “first woman to X-Y-Z” crap. Wholly irrelevant.

I disagree. The ‘first woman to do a thing’ is important, considering women have been excluded from or legally barred from even attempting many of the ‘firsts’ throughout history.

It’s the reason i mostly stopped reading anime’s: all girls/women are “gIrLs” first and can never hold their own against a boy/man

Between that and the casual “sexual assault means ‘hello’” nature of most japanimation and Japanese comics, I pretty much just stopped. There are exceptions here and there, but they’re so buried under the tide of misogyny I don’t feel like dumpster diving to find them anymore.

Battleship’s protagonist is a piece of shit, but the film had lowkey great points. Having real veterans and amputees as actors. And I loved how the alines are just sorta people. The scientist aliens even help out some of the people we’re following. Like, “it’s okay don’t afraid. Wow this must be real culture shock to you”

“Oh my god, we’re all gonna die.”

"You’re right, we’re all gonna die. You’re gonna die, she’s gonna die, I’m gonna die…

      But not today"

Fucking drifts an entire wwii era battleship to deliver a broadside

You’re goddamn right it had some great points
