Shogakukan stated that it won’t commission new projects or maintain existing business ties with any author or partner found to have committed severe human rights violations, including sexual assault or abuse, if their continued involvement is deemed ethically unacceptable.
I’d like to see an example of ethically acceptable severe human rights violation.
I read those last four words and all I can think is “Oh, so they’re saying they will continue to hire sex offenders and major human rights violators. Wonderful.”
That’s not what it means.

Meaning their involvement in the projects or other business activities. As I understand it, depending on their behaviour after the violations committed, and maybe the nature of the work.
E.g., someone who previously committed sexual assault should probably not work on a project that is a manga series featuring scenes of similar nature.
I have no idea how they’d evaluate the first part, but I can appreciate the sentiment.
Maybe when the person was young they did something and they are older and have proven to not be a repeat offender? Rare case, I know, but still possible.
To me it just sounds like a legal out to say any or all of them are deemed ethically unacceptable so they can fire them without legal issues. Japan has whack employment laws, and businesses will almost always try to make you quit before they fire you. I can see this wording being related to something like that.
