    got out of the army because I had no faith in the officer class making rational decisions. no ideas about this story other than to say enlisted ranks don’t kill each other but will kill officers who make bad calls that threaten survival. last i heard navy was backing down to avoid losing an aircraft carrier. long way around africa because Suez canal is now too dangerous. great leadership as per usual. officers are mostly a bunch of college educated yes men, trying to make rank.

        later blue collar jobs, i was despised as ‘book smart’ by supposed high-school grads as lacking hands–on experience. but, I learn fast and out-performed thanks to my book smarts. military gives officers experience in killing troops. not the same

          I imagine it’s less to do with the career choice and more to do with the anti-intellectualism that seems to be a feature of American society. If you can scratch your ass under your own volition, the higher ups start getting nervous.
