As another trans woman, it’s commonly known among us, but even then not as commonly known as you’d think. I never expect cis people to know the term or be aware of the concept (though I’ve been trying to be more vocal about it myself because I think it’s important that they do know)

And personally I think it’s actually more polite to ask for clarification in a thread. If you don’t know a word or idea others may not either and it allows the one who brought it up to be the voice on it
