This is the hive mentality that drives social media. It’s the only way it can succeeed. That, and the uquenching need for validation of course.

Reddit/Lemmy are definitely worse in this regard than something like Instagram

Personally I think Steve Irwin was a dick who invaded animals living spaces and aggravated them for television exposure then was predictably killed for doing the same thing. Dude got what he deserved.

I don’t like when people just say they like or dislike something… I like when they can explain why they like or dislike something. If they can’t do that, I assume their like/dislike is just group pressure from the beginning.

    Comparing two different things.

    • liking something barely anyone likes -> no one is invested enough to care.
    • disliking something everyone loves -> everyone is invested

Someone (irl) said that Metallica - St. Anger is a great album the other day and it caused a bit of a ruckus in the group (mostly “oh, that’s a new sentence”)

There’s a lot of (hopefully joking) hate on the pineapple pizza crowd. If you liked certain Star Wars movies you’re likely to have all your Star Wars opinions disregarded by other fans. I think people like to make fun of the out group regardless.
