I have to admit, Altman has proven to me that I lack imagination.

Sometimes I imagine if I were a billionaire, what would I even blow that money on, and this guy is raking up bills into the hundreds of billions.

Plus, he somehow managed to chase all the talent out of OpenAI, and allegedly they haven’t been able to successfully pre-train a model for 18 months (which is what the P in GPT stand for). Now they’ve declared code-red because Google has caught up, and they’re getting worried that people are dumping them over the ads they’re adding so they’re backing off that.

I know they could just drop the free tier to cut costs instantly, but they keep releasing stuff like their Sora social network thing, which, again, is a money furnace with basically no path to profitability. Maybe it’s useful for fine-tuning their Sora model, but likely it’s just a money fire.

This is basically what OpenAI is at the moment, complete with dumping their money into a giant New Mexico desert pit.

Let the free market decide the most efficient way of destroying money.

I think we all have more creative and productive ideas than literally setting money on fire, which is basically what building out those data centres amounts too.

I knew aligning with AI would bite the Republicans in the ass but I was assuming in like 5 to 10 years, not already lmao
