Facebook is fucking trash. Spent last night mitigating an attempt by bad actors to access my account. I almost fell for it too.
Deleted my Instagram account, which will take effect next month, and am now trying to figure out how to get rid of my Facebook without losing the fam chat. It’s been impossible to get them to move platforms, even though dad and I are in agreement that we don’t want a FB account anymore.
I think I’ll scrub as much of my personal data as possible and deactivate it. At least until the fam moves platforms.
Of course one of the more relevant answers about keeping chat history is deleted… but there’s at least some discussion in there.

I’m trying to work out how worried to be at some rando using one of my emails for their instagram (I’ve changed the password on seeing that and checked logins). Wondering if I should go delete their account. Seeing as I can’t make them use their own email.
It’s just annoying that i only access FB when something like this happens, it’s just another chore. I haven’t really looked into my options yet but I’ll check that thread out thank youuu!
Re your email and insta, you might be able to access that insta account and take ownership (2fa and whatnot), then deactivate it. That way you will get notified if they try to access and activate it again
Yeah, it’s such a hassle. Increasingly getting forced into social media to stay in touch with people and then having to constantly defend the accounts when they’re compromised…
If I was smart I’d make a different email for myself and then nuke that old one. It just involves lots of changing things and authenticating for each account to switch them out… I ask you why couldn’t they have had that level of vigilant checking when someone used my email 🤨

I would love to get rid of instagram, but it’s the only way I find out about gigs coming up
For that I’ve signed up for emails from just about every venue and touring company I like. There’s also Bandsintown
I’m not sure but I think you can deactivate FB while keeping the messenger app? Sorry that I can’t offer better info and I’m sorry this is happening
