I mean, it’s more than just media, but actual facts. Just like the information you’re sharing here, others could do the same should China choose to protect freedom of speech.

I’ve had people I know IRL dismiss things I’m seeing first hand because it contradicts what they’ve been lead to believe. But more frequently, they don’t even get that far, instead its some crazy mental gymnastics to maintain their cartoonish caricature of a country of a billion people.

The people who uncritically believe “China destroys all motorcycles after 13 years” or “eat eggs soaked in piss” because they saw it on reddit doesn’t care about reality, only that this weird foreign place is bad.

They don’t care about the chinese struggles, only its utility as hostile evidence.

It’s a variation of the observation that you can make the most ridiculous statement imaginable, and people will believe it as long as you add, “in Japan” to the end.

Example: “Local governments erect defenses against giant monsters, in Japan.”

It’s fair for you to think that, but I shouldn’t have to answer for the ignorance of others.

My point still stands where if China supported freedom of speech, we would hear about it beyond the reach of mainstream Western media.

I am not asking you to answer for anything, I am stating how the media ecosystem operates under capitalism. China stops censoring anyone who isn’t saying shit actual nazis/Elon Musk would want you to believe, and then every nazi gets a platform in western media whitewashing their views. We see this today with Shen Yun and Falun Gong.

China doesn’t censor them and they get a platform talking about how much China wants to censor them.

China’s people’s struggles is 100% divorced from the western perception of China.

No they absolutely are not, and to argue otherwise is to out yourself as a shill.

We all see clear as day that their people are persecuted for expressing themselves. Anything said against the CCP is punished. You’re literally sitting here arguing in favor of their suppressive tactics, and then pretending they don’t exist or matter.

No, I’m sorry. It doesn’t work on me and it shouldn’t on anyone with a brain. Please stop shitting up Lemmy with your propagandist bullshit.

Which view exactly do you think is being unjustly censored? Chinese people have talked to me about the issue of censorship, but when its a westerner who has never been to China 100% of the time its some fascist they think is a paragon of western values. Same effect can be observed in Russia; Putin is a literal fascist, but the only person random westerners cared about Putin oppressing is another fascist.

It’s not about “unjust” censorship. Censorship at all is enough to criticize. That’s what freedom of speech is all about.

That said, I already mentioned that anyone who criticized the CCP is punished. You need to try harder.

I’m ignoring you now because your propagandist bullshit is too much. Fuck off. Idiot.

You’re allowed to criticize the government, you’re just not allowed to call to overthrow it, which is also how it works everywhere else. Try and call to overthrow the US government and see the limits of your speech lol. Or hell, just be anti Zionist. The free speech we have or don’t have in our countries depends on what’s convenient for the big capitalists, whatever freedoms we have to criticize our governments is a pressure valve.
