Purely theoretical, if you inherit, let’s say, Elon Musk’s money, and you then resurrect him. Do you have to give that money back?

No, I think you would just inherit Elon Musk too. Make sure you feed him and take him on walks.

No, and I wouldn’t even ressurect him right away.

Id force his consciousness to play NES battletoads without break until he can beat it without cheating or warps before he can partially return to the real world.

there’s likely a mod for giving sim periods. it’s likely a matter of messing with some config files to give them permanent endomitosis periods

It doesn’t even matter what you do to them. You can torture them forever and you can choose whether they can remember or not.

ITT: people supporting torture and violence against tech entrepreneurs because of post-hoc political justifications.

These comments are operating under the hypothetical premise that it is literally a human consciousness. They’re essentially describing what they want to do to people if there were no legal consequences. It’s very revealing in many ways.

It’s like the mentality of a terrorist breeding ground here. Yikes.

These people are at risk of what? Climate disaster in 75 years? Tech, namely geoengineering, is literally the only feasible solution for that.

Climate change is affecting the world now. If you don’t feel it, you’re privileged that it hasn’t hit you yet. Have some empathy for others. Your condition isn’t a litmus test for everyone else.

Surgeons kill dozens of people, hundreds if they work hard enough in their lives. I don’t kill people, therefore they’re evil while I’m not, thus fantasizing about torturing them is okay. This is effectively your logic.

AI and robotics will continue detecting cancer sooner than humans and performing life saving surgery. Geoengineers will solve climate concerns. Technology will continue to streamline judicial systems, health care, education, leisure…

Meanwhile you’ll contribute nothing except whining that some casualties existed in the wake of all this. Do you not realize how much death and extinction existed before industrialization? Grow the fuck up.

That was a great story, thanks for sharing. I love how the voice of the article sounds exactly like I’d expect from the kind of article we might read today. It reminded me a little of the 1972 “Lenna image” of Lena Forsén in Playboy that was frequently used for illustrating image processing algorithms (a practice that is now banned in most relevant journals.

I also liked how the story mentioned fiction about brain uploading. That was very meta, and I enjoyed it to an unreasonable degree.

Oh! I bet that’s where the name of the thing comes from! If you go back into the link, Lena is at the top of the page, and the original draft shared the name.

        Thanks for that added context!

“Welcome back, Elon. I think you’re going to like what we’ve cooked up for you: Your reconstructed brain has been placed in a medically advanced life-support enclosure to ensure you’ll live - or at least exist - forever. We thought about using Neuralink ™ for this next bit, but the tech sucked. Instead we’ve implanted your brain with bespoke electrodes hooked up to your grey matter to simultaneously induce inescapable pain and allow your Broca’s area to drive this vocal synthesizer via your motor cortex. We were thinking the dulcet tones of your endless suffering could be made pay-per-view. You won’t be alone of course. Look, your old buddy Zukerberg’s jar is right over there, between Besos and Altman. Maybe we can make a choir…”

They think they’re going to live on their island fortresses with an army of slave robots, and the occasional actual slave.

They think the LLM hallucination problem will be ironed out in a couple of years.

They think longevity drug therapy is just a few years away.

I think they’re very wrong. They can throw all the money and electricity they want at these two fantasies, and they will remain fantasies. Unfortunately, we’re going to let them beat us all to hell over this… until we won’t anymore.

They know they’re in a race against an uprising, they just think they’re going to win this time.

Hallucinations have already been reduced. You’re expressing a pretty standard anti-LLM stance but it seems people in the field think the hallucination problem can be fixed. Even something as simple as having them say “I don’t know”. Better use of tools and sources.

The fact that hallucination is less of a problem then it used to be should make it pretty clear that it’s not immutable.

In any event, it’s still ridiculously more possible than artificially transferring human consciousness.

There is a lot of it also in a Black Mirror Episode - USS Calllister.

I think it is also the only episode with two parts.
