Alejandro Diaz’s opener for Pacific FC against Halifax Wanderers was awarded, when it would normally be ruled offside.

It doesn’t matter where the line is drawn. There will always be edge cases if we try to measure offside in any objective fashion. I’d prefer to keep things as they are but just try to optimise the process. I believe most people aren’t opposed to close offside calls but rather the very long periods of uncertainty during VAR checks.

This isn’t the biggest problem with VAR but if it leads to more scoring I guess?

Diaz was ahead of Lorenzo Callegari, the second-last defender and from whom the offside is measured, meaning he would have been ruled offside under the existing offside law. But given there was deemed to be no visible gap between the two players, Diaz was considered onside under the CPL’s revised rule.
