the kind of action that has so far characterized Mamdani’s first 100 days in office: not transformative, not obviously “socialist,” but “material” and visible, improving people’s lives in a small, tangible way. For instance, he has been aggressively filling potholes.

Look at this guy, improving lives. Get him!!

At this point, “improving lives” is considered socialism by conservatives, and a far-left pipedream by neoliberals.

Socialism is not just about bringing the means of production into state ownership, but about adhering to a set of egalitarian principles that emphasize solidarity, erode class distinctions, and build the public sector and public assets, making our country work for everyone and not for the profits of large corporations. Fixing potholes may not be “socialist,” but Mamdani’s aggressive effort to escalate small infrastructure fixes is part of a much broader plan to restore faith in the public sector’s ability to get things done.

    Bravo!

Pretty sure I’ve told this story before, but when I started as news ed at a small-town Oregon paper, my first interview for my column was the mayor. He ran on infrastructural improvements, got them done, and didn’t run for a second term. Truly a class act.

Shame that we’re now shocked by competence.

Meanwhile my mayor is crying because Governor Hot Wheels and his amoral AG sent him a nasty letter because we won’t violate the constitution to harass minorities more using city resources

It’s wild to me how normalized the name Hot Wheels is there despite the fact that would never fly anywhere else. What a state.

Well, when the man is a fucking Nazi it turns out he isn’t deserving of considerations regarding his disability. He isn’t worth the air he breathes, either.

I wonder what the “I’ll never vote for a socialist!!” types are doing now to resolve their cognitive dissonance.

Their hard-earned tax money is being spent to fix potholes on streets they don’t drive on. Of course they’re upset!

They’ll find anything to be upset about. I’m sure there’s something. If nothing else, they’ll just use his skin color or something.

Someone near me on Nextdoor blames liberals in Seattle for one of her neighbors not using a leash when he walks his dog. I shit you not.
