THIS IS NOT A DRILL

PlayStation’s “Bloodborne” is being developed into an R-rated animated feature for Sony Pictures that the studio says will embrace the carnage that made the game so popular.

Sanford Panitch, president of Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group, promised during the studio’s CinemaCon presentation that the long-rumored film will be “very true” to the gory spirit of “Bloodborne,” which follows a traveler who journeys into a gothic city full of nightmarish creatures.

“Bloodborne” was developed by FromSoftware and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, which shares a parent company with Sony Pictures and PlayStation. The film is co-produced by PlayStation Productions, Lyrical Animation and creator and gamer Seán McLoughlin, better known by his pseudonym JackSepticEye. For the uninitiated, McLoughlin is a gamer who has spent years in the world of “Bloodborne,” where his digital adventures are tracked by 48 million online fans.

Lyrical Media, parent company of Lyrical Animation, is co-financing “Bloodborne” with Sony Pictures. McLoughlin is repped by CAA, Nicole Ambrose, Hansen Jacobson, and 42 West.

From the reddit announcement post:

Hey guys, I’m Jacksepticeye and as just announced at Cinemacon, Sony Pictures is officially making an animated Bloodborne feature film. I am producing this project and you have no idea how incredibly excited I am to finally be able to talk about it!! I am going to do everything in my power to make this the BEST Bloodborne adaptation possible. Not only is it my favourite game ever made but I know how truly passionate the fans of this game are and how much hunger they have for more of it.

I can’t share much about the project right now but man does it feel good to let you all know it’s happening!

HO-LY SHIT

    doesn’t have a plot

There is a lot to work with actually. I think the “no plot” has more to do with the way from tells stories. If I were being paid I could write like 4 different bloodborne scripts. Look up the bloodborne graphic novels to see how the world inspires compelling stories.

    no compelling characters

Hard disagree. Even the NPC hunters in the chalices have unique, interesting designs that seem to point to deeper (pun he he) storylines. You meet summonable hunters, whose design and location speak to their story; and aggressive hunters who for some reason have made their home in the chalices among the pthumerians. The old hunter dlc alone has such an incredible story, and micolash and Mensis makes great foil villains for the second act.
