THIS IS NOT A DRILL
PlayStation’s “Bloodborne” is being developed into an R-rated animated feature for Sony Pictures that the studio says will embrace the carnage that made the game so popular.
Sanford Panitch, president of Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group, promised during the studio’s CinemaCon presentation that the long-rumored film will be “very true” to the gory spirit of “Bloodborne,” which follows a traveler who journeys into a gothic city full of nightmarish creatures.
“Bloodborne” was developed by FromSoftware and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, which shares a parent company with Sony Pictures and PlayStation. The film is co-produced by PlayStation Productions, Lyrical Animation and creator and gamer Seán McLoughlin, better known by his pseudonym JackSepticEye. For the uninitiated, McLoughlin is a gamer who has spent years in the world of “Bloodborne,” where his digital adventures are tracked by 48 million online fans.
Lyrical Media, parent company of Lyrical Animation, is co-financing “Bloodborne” with Sony Pictures. McLoughlin is repped by CAA, Nicole Ambrose, Hansen Jacobson, and 42 West.
From the reddit announcement post:
Hey guys, I’m Jacksepticeye and as just announced at Cinemacon, Sony Pictures is officially making an animated Bloodborne feature film. I am producing this project and you have no idea how incredibly excited I am to finally be able to talk about it!! I am going to do everything in my power to make this the BEST Bloodborne adaptation possible. Not only is it my favourite game ever made but I know how truly passionate the fans of this game are and how much hunger they have for more of it.
I can’t share much about the project right now but man does it feel good to let you all know it’s happening!
HO-LY SHIT

Sony will do anything but greenlight a port, remake, or sequel.
I wouldn’t even hold out hope that this ever sees the light of day. Sony likes to cancel a lot of their film projects that they start.
They tried. Bluepoint wanted to work on a Bloodborne remake. Sony accepted it, Fromsoft turned it down.
Normally I’d agree. However, seeing as this legally speaking Sony’s IP and that they had ample opportunity to push out a remaster, remake, or sequel, they likely have a contract going with FromSoft to not touch the IP willy nilly. Here’s hoping that FS have greenlit this and are interested in a movie adaption themselves, making a cancellation unlikely. Not impossible, but less likely than if it were a movie for any other Sony IP
I don’t have a link at hand but I remember reading that while Sony owns the rights, it’s Fromsoft blocking a remake or remaster being made. Sony could unilaterally decide to make one, but they value their relationship with Fromsoft and Fromsoft doesn’t want to so that’s why it doesn’t happen. If I remember right Miyazaki wants it to happen, but he wants to do it himself. But he doesn’t really want to do it, at least not right now. So it just doesn’t happen instead.
Yup, that’s what I meant :)
