For all the boasts the US’s AI military vendors make, I’m constantly struck by how few real-world achievements they have. They are battlefield tested in Gaza and Lebanon, but to what result? The mass destruction of civilian populations we see there looks exactly like WW2-era warfare. Now they want $445bn extra for more of the same? What a waste.
Meanwhile, with a tiny fraction of the budget & resources, it’s Ukraine that is inventing the future. Drones have already reconfigured 21st-century warfare. Once again, recent events in the Middle East have shown that. Now Ukraine is doing the same with robots.
Some people find the idea of killer robots grim. But I’d rather see robots fight robots than WW2-style mass slaughter of civilians.
Ukrainian robots capture enemy position without troops in historic first, Zelenskyy says
Unless robot armies are only planning to invade and annex lands populated by other robots, I don’t see how military conflicts fought only by robots are going to avoid the mass slaughter of civilians.
This isn’t battle bots

Sure, they won’t slaughter civilians, just be a good citizen and trust them
By capture enemy position they mean they rolled them into an area the enemy wasn’t fighting in and said “look we took the position.” This is the same thing they were doing the first two years of the war, taking empty fields, saying they “took the positions from Russia” and then losing thousands of men in the aftermath
Its not the robots fighting robots a smuch as the robots mass slaughtering civilians. Your first paragraph talks about mass destruction from non human hands. missiles and bombs. Granted though that robots with guns will kill less civilians and an improperly targeted missile.
I have a theory that in the future wars are fought with robots only and when the other side runs out of robots they give up because no human wants to fight against them.
Well, that presumes that one or both opponents won’t intentionally just target civilians.

That’s where our benevolent robot protectors come in!
I mean there are some folks in democracies are not wild about totalitarian takeovers and might rather die by robot. Any government expanding by force is not one you want controling where you live. I hope in the future we unite by diplomacy, law, and human rights.
