  • I’ve been advocating this for quite a while. I’m honestly confused as to what Canadians are doing and it seems their words are not matching the actions. “Perfect is the enemy of good” they say, which allows them to be complacent and utilize things like social media en-masse, even though the delete button is free and will actually clear your mind to disconnect from those platforms. Please tell me honestly, for example is LinkedIn still expected for tech/adjacent workers in Canada? These are plain and simply propaganda platforms, they are all designed to manipulate minds in precisely the way Orwell or Huxley had predicted. Including dating platforms.

“When you believe a lie for too long, the truth doesn’t set you free. It tears you apart.”

  • I’ve been downvoted here a couple times for pointing out just that: Here is just one example. Please feel free to browse my profile history.

While lurking I still see on Canadian reddit city subs people recommending LinkedIn, Indeed, Moving to the US for work, etc. I would argue even online most are still deluded, let alone real life who are still voting these authoritarian neo-libs.

I know it’s hard to believe but the majority of Canadians are traitors just as much as these 15% of Albertans who are seperatist. Grow a pair and delete all your American profiles, divest out of S&P500, protest the government to divest CPP and other hundreds of billions out of the US, but most won’t do even one of those because actions speak louder than words, and that’s just too much work for most Canadians. This will get much, much worse, before it even starts to get better.

  • Exactly why I’m baffled that Canadians haven’t all deleted their American socials (It’s FREE!). These are propaganda platforms designed to manipulate in favor of fascism, all of Canada’s democracy is at great risk because you cannot have free decisions with a poisoned well of information. Not to mention that this a majority of where the stock market value is held, Google market cap is larger than the entirety of the Canadian economy. Hit them where it hurts already.

  • Yeah this is such a pipe dream after over a year of no movement, the first baby step is motivating citizens to voluntarily delete their “free” accounts on US services. Next good luck with corporate adoption, without hefty government subsidies they will never use Linux, LibreOffice, local hosting, or other alternatives. Since the government will not ban these platforms, the only way is to populate locally owned platforms which is ironic considering after so long lemmy is still fairly dead so again good luck.
