  • He might. The thing about cults of personality is that they absolutely need a magnetic personality to cultivate around. Trump has proved intuitively capable at offering just that, while Vance has very much not. Money and power don’t make up for a lack of charisma, which has been thoroughly exemplified by Musk and Zuck in recent years.

Vance is not left entirely without a chance at this ofc, but the momentum that brought him to his current office is not the same momentum he’d be riding to the next one up. He would have to ‘git gud’ essentially, and we dont really have any reason to believe he’s capable of it atm.

It’s possible, but I think they’re going to keep shopping around for a more fitting charismatic leader. Vance just doesn’t have the cheeks to fit that saddle, so they’re only going to stick him on it if they fail to find someone they actually like/want.

  • Isolated, even exalted, by his wealth and power; so thoroughly so that he has become inhibited by his own lack of inhibition. Being a Kennedy, he probably has never had to deal with hearing the word ‘no’ outside of his childhood. Not in any way that has actually affected his life, at least.

It would almost be sad if it didn’t mean his ignorance and incompetence were going to be ruining, destroying, and even ending all these less privileged lives.

Of all of them, it is so fucked that Rosemary was the one they forced into lobotomy. Not saying thats what should be done to rfk tbc, as I think it’s a brutal and disgusting overstepping of boundaries in just about any context, but it is also very telling that madness like his was left to fester while a young woman is almost literally cut out of herself for simply being too lively and earnest. For wanting to be like a real person with real feelings and interests instead of…whatever this man is.

Disgusting and infinitely shameful display. Both the individual and the unrightfuly esteemed brood that spawned him. It all illustrates what could be easily read as a genuine hatred for our species. Power over all else.

Thinking about this family and the outsized power they wield is just such a frustrating and distressing affair. Sorry for the rant, all.

  • I hear you and basically agree*~. Tone can be tough to manage on either end.

I think the downvotes are also a tonal thing. People are taking you as being overly-critical, though Im pretty youre genuinely trying to be helpful. People, am I right?

Edit: had a half-thought or so more on the topic. Felt like sharing.

*~ We have tools that help us distinguish tone and meaning, but they are only helpful when people actually understand and use them appropriately. I am of the camp that language, syntax, and the like are all as mercurial as the creatures dealing in them. This means that definitions and use-cases will inevitably change over time, sometimes in ways that are useful and sometimes in ways that are not. I am the type inclined toward embracing this change as it simply seems too inevitable to deny, though I do sincerely agree that it adds fresh layers of potential confusion with each new iteration and off-shoot.

Im not trying to say anyone should give up on upholding literary standards, but I do feel strongly that this is a losing battle in almost all ways. Especially so after the advent of new media. Language and culture grow in their distinction and breadth at an almost equal rate, so having long-distance communication splinter culture so thoroughly has and will continue to alter how we use language at a similar pace. It has been said by some people more well informed than myself that we are not ready for the changes our modern innovations are ushering in, and with that thought I can not find any good reason to disagree.

  • Reporters should be expected to be more diligent in their research than the general public, though.

Either they didn’t look into this substance beyond what they were told (which is at best lazy, and at worst willfully deceptive when your job is the sharing of accurate and clear information), or they knew and intentionally chose to use a name that the average person wasn’t going to recognize. For reasons, I’m sure.

It is literally their job to know what desukinks is and explain to us that desuskank is meth. For some reason they chose not to.
