My wife went into labor with our second child and like 3 AM. I load our 4 year old and her into the car. A little while later Grandpa shows up and takes our son home. My wife gives birth to our daughter. I go back home that evening because Grandpa has to drive an hour back to his house to feed his horses.

Go to put my son to bed and his brown blanket that he has slept with every night is nowhere to be found. I knew he loved this blanket and knew this day would come, so I had a spare hidden in the house.

I march proudly in and hand him this blanket. He looks at it, looks at me, and says, “old brown blanket”. For context he is autistic and had a severe speech delay, so it was kind of shocking to hear him say that. I explain he can have it tomorrow and that this one will do for tonight.

I go to turn on his noise maker which he has slept with every night of his life and it won’t turn on. Turns out our cat picked that day to chew completely through the cord and then continue to munch on it making it unrepairable.

So in one day he got drug out of bed at 3 am, got a new sister, lost his brown blanket, and his noise maker wouldn’t work.

Luckily I had my box of cables and found one that worked with his noise maker. I was so excited when I ran up the stairs with his working noise maker.

He is 15 now, still has his brown blanket and still reminds me about the time I tried to give him “new brown blanket.” But not that his noise maker had a new cord.

You’ve got to expand on that

That’s wonderful advice. Luckily my mom will be back Tuesday to take it back over. The spray she left is a mixture of water and peroxide, she said to help prevent fungus. It’s been a bit of a learning experience for us both because she moved from Texas to New England. The summer was so humid she basically never had to water it. But of course as soon as she left winter hit and the air dried up. There is a good chance I’ve overwatered it. I’ll hold off on doing anything else until she gets back.

She already has one of those. Plus the dog sleeps in her room every night too. She loves everything

Yup it’s a Pothos

My mom has several offshoots of it around her house. Before she moved last year they took up nearly an entire wall in her house. She gave them away to friends just in case the ones she brought didn’t survive the move halfway across the country. But this one is basically plant zero, so even though they say they are nearly impossible to kill, I’ve been known to have the worst luck with plants.

While the accounts are most like exaggerated, so are most things from that time. We still learned about Paul Revere and not the 40 other riders out that night. Or the fact the Revere was captured, while the others with him escaped. And Samuel Prescott was the one who actually finished the ride.

Like in American history you hear about Paul Revere riding a damn horse over and over, yet you never learn about Nancy Morgan Hart. I learned who she was from a Bad Cop/Bad Cop song.

I’ve worked in IT consulting for over 10 years and have never once lied about the capabilities of a product. I have said, it doesn’t do that natively, but if that’s a requirement we can scope how much it would take to make it happen. Sadly my company is very much the exception.

The worst I saw was years ago I was working on an infrastructure upgrade of a Hyper-V environment. The client purchased a backup solution I wasn’t familiar with but said it supported Hyper-V. It turns out their Hyper-V support was in “beta”. It wasn’t in beta. They were literally using this client as a development environment. It was a freaking joke. At one point I had to get on the phone with one of their developers and explain how high-availability and fail-over worked.
