  • Storing data in ram isn’t wasteful though, I have a lot of criticisms of windows but the memory management isn’t one of them. I’d rather have as much predictive content be staged in ram as possible as long as it’s readily dumped out if I go to do something else, which is my experience. Like I don’t earn interest for having unused RAM on my computers (for reference I have an endeavorOS, rhel, fedora, and windows computers under my desk connected to a dual monitor kvm right now; it isn’t like I don’t regularly use/prefer Linux; I mostly access my windows machine via rustdesk for work related stuff I don’t feel like having to dick with on Linux like the purchase order system and Timecard system), I just don’t get this critique.

  • Single father with two school aged kids, mom lives in another state. I’ve turned down a couple higher paying executive roles that have been offered to me the last few years because I don’t know how I could make it work. I get my kids up at 7 and the latest one can’t be to school until 9. I have to start getting them from school at 3:30. I’m sure I could figure it out, plenty of people less fortunate than I am but I guess that I’ve decided that I’m incredibly fortunate that I can always be around and available for my kids and I don’t think I would disrupt that for any amount of money as long as I can provide for them this way. I do miss the social aspects of my colleagues sometimes though which really surprised me.

  • I used to watch a lot of football. It would consume so much of my time. I’m not sure if it’s getting older, having kids, manufactured drama, folks tying their identity to something they have no control over, or the ‘kneeling’ bullshit but it was kind of eye opening when a buddy of mine called me today to ask who I was rooting for and I genuinely had no idea what he was talking about. I don’t think he believed me when I told him I didn’t know what he was talking about. I haven’t seen a single game all year and I don’t think I’ve missed anything. Happy that folks find enjoyment in it but I just don’t think it’s my bag anymore.

  • I have an electric golf cart that I can take on any roads 35 mph or lower, I’m saving for a lithium upgrade so I can go farther than 15 miles round trip. I had my last vehicle stolen when cars were not available at the beginning of COVID. I bought a mini van to replace it, it cost twice what I wanted to pay but I have to have a good vehicle for the family and a sedan just wasn’t realistic. Luckily insurance also paid out over twice what my stolen vehicle originally cost me because of the market at the time. I love my mini van but I usually only drive it once or twice a week, most of my daily trips are in the golf cart.
