Biggest mistake in my life was leaving Boston. People weren’t unfriendly, they just had busy lives and didn’t have time for BS, but if you were waiting at a T stop you could easily strike up a conversation. I lived in Brookline and I can easily think of 5 different places with great food (at reasonable prices) in that area alone. Sure, it was kinda cold in winter; okay it’s not as easy to navigate as Manhattan, but it’s got character. There are ways to live cheap there but yeah the biggest killer is rent, either you’ll be commuting a lot or you’ll be living cramped. Still, it’s one of my 3 favorite cities in the world.

  • Yeah, Jane Austen’s easily one of the top 20 English novelists of all time, and one of my personal favorites. She gets kind of a mixed appreciation these days bc the movies made from her novels usually focus on the romance (often in a way that would have scandalized her) and skimp on her commentary about human nature and society’s pressures. And plus her prose is just gorgeous and that is difficult to adapt to film. Probably the best adaptation is the BBC 1980 Pride and Prejudice miniseries ( wikipedia , tubi ) which was adapted by Fay Weldon, who was a novelist in her own right. That miniseries turns a lot of Austen’s prose into dialogue, which is beautiful to hear in that context, though as a consequence the series is a little slow for a wide modern audience. Really you have to read the books themselves.

On October 11, 1991, during a break from rehearsals for The Royal Family, [Redd] Foxx suffered a heart attack on the set.

Foxx did his scripted part of the scene (walking across the back of a chair) while being livid, then immediately fell to the floor. Reese said that nobody initially suspected that anything was wrong, as Foxx was famous for Fred Sanford’s fake heart attacks on Sanford and Son and was particularly skilled at pratfalls. When he did not immediately rise, Reese went to the floor[38] and heard him say “get my wife” twice.[39] Reese called for paramedics.[39] According to Joshua Rich at Entertainment Weekly: “It was an end so ironic that for a brief moment castmates figured Foxx–whose 1970s TV character often faked coronaries–was kidding when he grabbed a chair and fell to the floor.”[40]
