Pretty good! I turned 30, I went out for various meals and activities with friends and family, my wife and I saw Getdown Services in Boston last night which was an awesome time, and next week I’m taking a week-long vacation.

3·16 days agoJust went to a concert last night at a newly acquired livenation venue. All acts gave a rousing “Fuck Livenation,” but who knows if anything will really change 😔

1·18 days agolooking at the schematics of the device I want to monitor more closely, it looks like it’s actually using addressable LEDs with a two-wire protocol, which actually makes things even easier because I can just sample on the provided clock edges. I think these are colloquially DotStar rather than NeoPixel devices. For reference I’m designing some mods for a modern pinball machine and it would be useful to know the state of lights on the playfield since I can’t hook into the code directly.

1·19 days agowell, it’s more being able to detect long vs. short pulses, as it’s not the logic level but the pulse width that encodes the bits.

3·19 days agofortunately the RP2040’s programmable IO can run at 40x that 3MHz rate, so with a working program I should be able to differentiate short and long pulses and convert them back to bits. My application shouldn’t need to know exact colors, rather just detecting certain patterns or an on/off threshold state for a specific light in the chain.

Data centers’ heat exhaust is not raising the land temperature around where they’re built

2·1 month agoI just wish SLS wasn’t such a compromised project from the start. Sure it’ll be kinda cool to see, but its just the least innovative rocket possible. If only some of spacex’s contract budget could’ve gone to funding NASA instead 😔

1·1 month agoStill plugging away at Pokémon Omega Ruby, my wife is playing Alpha Sapphire. Remembering just how fun and cool the 3DS is as a console. Also played a bit of Dragon Quest Builders on Steam Deck.

92·1 month agoall of the computers in my house run linux, and other than a few laptop hardware issues my non-techie wife uses it for all of her work happily. Sure I can’t play Fortnite, but other than that sort of edge case I never see myself going back. My dual-boot windows install has been left to rot on my desktop and I don’t think it’s even worth the time investment of updating by firing it up again.

I’m so tired, man
