Bluesky did a lot right. I really hate it because of that. I think its going ot eventually win out and become exactly the same as twitter.

I dont find them addictive, just useful.
I dont want corporate platforms to be the only ones to implement recommendation algorithms. The problem with the platform is its a blackbox not that it has algorithmic recommendations. And the fediverse will do it, there is already the beginnings of recommendation algorithms.
Those arent the steps. There is a 6th one because you have to go find content. Whats served up by default is random and not very good compared with the algorithmic feeds of other platforms.

Technology@lemmy.world•Don't throw away your old PC—it makes a better NAS than anything you can buyEnglish
4·4 days agomy gaming pc runs at like 50w idle and only draws a ton of power if its being used for something. It would be more accurate to consider a PC to be 1.75x more power than a NAS but then account for the cost of buying a NAS. I’d say NAS would probably take 2-4 years to pay off depending on regional power prices.

Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL: Young Men Ages 18–29 are Turning Right-Wing and Women of the Same Age Turning Left-WingEnglish
0·4 days agoThe right offers community for men and a traditional pathway to life milestones that are a core part of happiness for men. This pathway of work hard, go to church, meet a women from church, have kids is very appealing for a lot of men.
They offer structure, discipline and motivation for young men to better themselves.
There is more but these are core I think.
I didnt see the part where they mentioned trying to leave. Also why would I assume this person is financially struggling, they are likely getting paid in the hundreds of thousands.
As soon as I saw this i knew I had to go to the phoronix comments and bask in the shit flinging
Why would you keep working there. After that two hour demo of the app i’d have given the highers ups shit until they fired me. Sometimes you got to use your professional status to tell people they are doing a bad job

Linux@lemmy.ml•What are the silliest reasons people have given you for not wanting to try Linux?English
1·11 days agoI think its some gymnastics being preformed. They really want the new macbook and they’re telling themselves they HAVE to spend that because their old device isnt good enough. If their old devices suddenly starts doing the job then shelling out 2k for a new laptop becomes unreasonable.

Linux@lemmy.ml•What are the silliest reasons people have given you for not wanting to try Linux?English
6·14 days agoMy friend said they didnt want to try linux on their laptop because they wanted to buy a new laptop.
I wish I had that problem, I’d jump at the chance to save $2000 and preserve my current device by switching to a free operating system.
