    For anyone else confused: https://vision.org.au/read/news/red-heifer-ritual-speculation-in-israel/

The Temple Institute admitted to the burning of a heifer in the Samarian hills, but stressed it was only a simulation, as part of a decade-long series of educational and practical preparations.

It said it was not a production of red heifer ashes as strictly validated by Jewish religious laws. WHY THE RECENT BURNING OF A RED HEIFER WAS INVALID

The Institute emphasised several key points

The event was a practice only, using a heifer that was invalid Priestly garments used were not consecrated, so it was non-kosher The ashes created were left in place and invalid for ritual purification Only samples were collected by individuals who were ritually impure

    Yes, they’re fucking nuts.

… now I’m even more confused.

They simulated the burning of a cow? And this simulation is in some way religious?

I believe the cow was actually burned but the religious ceremony was ‘simulated’ in that it was non kosher or something. It was a practice run. Any sane person should be confused IMO.
