newpipe is going to continue working , you will need to go through the horrible “advanced flow” to install it on a device with play protect .

the changes are bad , but not “break all non compliant apps” bad

You can use e/OS (pretty good de-Googled Android OS) and overall stop using Google services (look at Europe, they are also in the process of showing the middle finger to big tech). NewPipe itself said you can load the app via ADB onto your device (this can be daunting if you are not technical but tutorials will help you).

Overall I can just recommend to see this as a point where you switch away from big tech, that collects data and pushes you into their way of living. There are FOSS alternatives for almost all Google, Microsoft and other “You will need this to function in our civilization” bull shit services. I study, live and work completely FOSS since 6 years (exemptions are of course present, like government applications or e-banking), and I never had any problems doing my tasks, finding a place or having fun with friends.

Break yourself free, believe me, it is healing.

I used a generous definition of “supported” to include old firmware that GrapheneOS doesn’t support any longer on their latest releases but a release did exist at one point. It’s further down the FAQ.

Basically, I gave the benefit of the doubt and still the statement is still demonstrably false because the largest set of phones “supported” is still a tiny subsection of all phones in the market.

I get your sentiment but I think you meant LineageOS and not Graphene. I’m running Graphene now but there is only a small handful of supported devices due to its strict security hardware requirements that most phones don’t meet.

The next best alternative (and technically the big dog in the room) is LineageOS. Preferably with no google-play-services.
