Here’s a mixed selection, not necessarily the newest releases from each artist.

Ones I think you’re most likely to enjoy:

      Mick Jenkins - 2011

Huge fan of this guy’s writing and his smooth beats. And just his attitude in general lol

      Papoose - Agent Provocateur

Papoose hates 50 Cent and just dropped this hilarious diss track. Also check out his “mini movie” Bars On Wheels for more bars bars bars

      Norman Sann - OVERLOOKED

Can’t believe I forgot Sann. Old school sound with a modern flare. Super fun

      Aesop Rock - The Cut

I think Aesop might be the greatest lyricist in the game right now. Absolutely amazing stuff if you appreciate DENSE writing. The kind of writer who makes you look up the lyrics just to take in all the ways he’s so damn clever. Most albums have a theme, too, and he puts out a lot of them.

Joey Valence & Brae - PACKAPUNCH feat. Danny Brown

Did you like the beastie boys? Well…

(Also kicking myself for forgetting to mention Danny Brown but tbh I wasn’t too into his newest album)

      Now onto some others:

      JID - Off Da Zoinkys

The world hasn’t caught up to JID yet. He’s clever and his flows are unmatched (IMO). This one’s off an old album but I like recommending it because the beat is so cool. His new album is pretty good but his previous one (The Forever Story) was incredible

Samara Cyn - Good Is A LIE

Day 1 fan, remember me when she blows up (which she will)

Of The Trees & EARTHGANG - Look Into My Eyes

Can’t give the gang credit for the beat but man this one’s a banger

      SALIMATA - Supastar Living

I can’t even describe her. Such an interesting sound.

Ok I have to stop for now. But one more bonus artist I forgot to mention:

Ando San - Bad For Yah Health

You probably haven’t heard anything like this. Only dude I know combining hip hop and prog and he crushes it

Whoah… Papoose is awesome, G, like a modern reinterpretation of the classics…

Holy SHIT, Papoose is a godamn genius.
See, that’s what I’m talking about!!

I’ll get to the other songs later, but damn… thanks for educating my dumb arse, @glimse@lemmy.world

EDIT: It may sound stupid, but I LOVE it when people bring me cool new stuff. Absolutely no attitude necessary. Thank you! <3

Hey now, Papoose isn’t a reinterpretation, he’s been out there since the 90s! But unlike most rappers of the era, his music didn’t get corny as he aged. Can’t really think of anyone doing it so consistently for so long

But yeah if you dug that track, you’ll love Bars On Wheels. Ironically it’s about how he thinks hip hop is dying but it’s still awesome
