The GOP really fucking didn’t want this hed before 2200MST.

Democrats have regained control of the US Senate, routing Republicans nationwide with historic victories that will give them powerful new leverage over Donald Trump for the remainder of his presidency.

Democrats will soon have the ability to hold up not just Trump’s legislative agenda, but also any appointments he makes to his cabinet or the federal judiciary – including the supreme court, where conservatives have a 6-3 majority.

Together with their likely triumph in the House of Representatives, Democrats are expected to have full control of Congress beginning next year, for the first time since 2022.

The party regained control of the Senate after their candidates won in a host of states where they hadn’t had success in years, if not decades, including South Carolina, North Carolina, Ohio, Texas, Iowa and Kansas, according to the Associated Press.

Vote counting is ongoing in Minnesota and Michigan – where the party hopes to hold seats vacated by retiring Democrats – as well as Maine, where Susan Collins is the last Republican senator representing a blue state. Democrats also hope to unseat two-term Republican Dan Sullivan in Alaska, but the result in that race may take days to be decided.

So, I get to fly home and know that Hot Wheels and Paxton are fucking gone.

And a potential 8th in fucking Mississippi!

There is a difference of 33 votes right now. Mail in ballots accepted until November 10th, so that’ll be a long week lol

Alaska is a potential as well. In the best outcome Democrats have 56 Senate seats. And all these unusual pickups last for 6 years making future good maps with potentially higher numbers more likely, which could be potentially critical in 2028 should a Democrat win the presidency.

Yeah. With the pickups this year combined with a potential 2028, the Democrats might be able to have a fillabuster proof Senate.

I ran the numbers on a county basis. The dem in Alaska will beat the leading Republican by about 1200 votes. However, they won’t surpass the 50% marker needed. So it’s going to ranked choice, where likely the Republican will win.

Same method I used to calculate this has Mississippi winning by about 10k votes.

Hell yeah! Flipping Texas is huge. Here’s hoping the Dems use this opportunity to make some waves, politically.

There’s still a few months for them to try to pass bills to hobble the incoming leaders. Republican states that go blue often try to shift as much power as possible away from the positions they just lost.

It looks like they’re going to keep the Senate, so they can pass a lot of legislation during the lame duck session dictating policy and limitations on the governor and AG and then block all attempts to remove it. Expect fuckery.

Hot Wheels does love calling the Lege into special session to make liberal policy at the local level illegal at the state level. We aren’t quite done with the bullshit yet.

I am much happier to fly into Austin tomorrow. I was sick of the same fucking people running the state for the entire 11 years I’ve lived there. “Here” returns tomorrow.

I can’t even imagine what the atmosphere’s gonna be like there. Probably see a lot of people driving around celebrating.

I would imagine Austin will be far more jubilant than Temple, Texas. I do know that my home will be thrilled.
