    This was an update to article, from Epic:

    Epic is in contact with the family and will solve the insurance for them. There is high confidentiality around medical information and it was not a factor in this layoff decision. Sorry to everyone for not recognizing this terribly painful situation and handling it in advance.

    But this is largely an issue with US insurance (and elsewhere?) where your insurance is through your employer. Most people i know here don’t get life or health insurance plans outside of their employer

      Pretty sure the US is the only country where medical insurance is tied to employment.

      Some companies often offer extra medical benefits elsewhere, but nowhere else does your entire medical coverage depend on your employer.

      great, now all he has to worry about is rent, food, bills, and all those other expenses. I’m sure Tim will dedicate an insignificant fraction of his immeasurable wealth to taking care of all that, too.
