Proton would be over the top unless they’re using graphics APIs or other common gaming related libraries.
That said, Wine/Bottles would be a possible solution. But so is a VM that runs the software in it’s native environment with pass through ports or even port device/emulation.
Linux /POSIX is great, but its not always the right solution.
