MONTCLAIR, Calif. – A truck carrying an estimated 40,000 pounds of Pabst Blue Ribbon beer was stolen in Montclair in what may be the biggest beer heist ever.
The stolen truck was loaded with what is equivalent to more than 50,000 cans of Pabst Blue Ribbon.
Pabst has publicly addressed the theft through social media, expressing frustration while urging the person responsible to return the vehicle and its cargo.
In an Instagram post, the company wrote: “STOLEN - 40,000lbs of beer.”
The post continued: "To the thief: we don’t fault you for wanting to brag to your friends how much PBR you have, we just wish you obtained it the honorable way.
The company gave the thief an ultimatum.
“Pabst is officially starting the clock now - you have exactly 18 days and 44 minutes to return our truck, no questions asked. Leading up to that time, we will be offering a reward to anyone who can help us solve this mystery.”
Because everyone measures beer by the pound.
40,000 pounds is 20 tons, a typical truckload.
Which typical truck: a single axle box truck, a tandem box truck, a tandem tractor with tandem trailer, a tandem tractor with tridem trailer, a tridem tractor with either trailer, or a Super-B? 43’ trailers or 53’?
Well given the cargo is stated to be 40,000 pounds of beer, I’m strongly assuming a tandem tractor towing a 53 foot tandem axle reefer trailer. Such an “18-wheeler” is common enough to be a stereotype on American roads and such a configuration would carry a payload of almost exactly 40,000 pounds.
