It’s hard to overstate what an enormous undertaking this will be. After the attacks of 9/11, the U.S. government went through its biggest reorganization since World War II for the purpose of improving just one function, national security.
AI will require much, much more. It will affect national security as well as employment, education, taxation, energy, elections, air and water, public health, the financial system, law enforcement, transportation, public lands, and IT systems.
…
At the national level, countries will need bodies that can set priorities across government agencies. The goal will be to make sure that every risk is accounted for. Otherwise, an AI-enabled attack might succeed because no one thought it was their job to stop it.
Patriot Act 2.0 AI Edition
How dangerous is Epstein? How dangerous have you been with your vanity projects and half-assed endeavors?
The fact the media keeps pushing him on us, I guess it’s how the little girls he was raping felt. At least we can do something as adults.
It is astonishing how he is still treated as any authority figure in IT. Especially here on Lemmy. Just don’t accept the premise of the story. The only relevance he has left is to show each day he walks around without consequences that the Epstein Class rules this world, and isn’t facing any accountability.
The same thing is happening with the climate emergency. “BP warns 100% electrification of cars is not feasible blah blah”, and people take the bait and give it oxygen. Very bizarre brain bug in human psychology.
Why do our overlords suck so much
Because nobody wants it from Microsoft or Google or X or the other racist asshole companies.
why does he want us afraid of AI
edit: to be clear, I find AI a waste, but it doesn’t scare me
edit2: I’m wondering if he’s saying it to help fabricate a justification for paying technology workers less—even though they’re still irreplaceable (contrary to what CEOs fantasize AI is capable of doing for them)
When a tech CEO says that Ai is dangerous and that we should limit training for safety, what they are really saying that all AI companies that train models are wasting billions in frontier Ai training that is producing smaller and smaller gains, while Chinese open weight models are still eating their lunch. They should be given a breather without them having to admit that they grossly overpromised regarding AI and AGI on the grounds of “AI safety” because they “could win too much” if they have to keep training and pretending to build datacenters under competitive pressure. If they have to publicly come out and say that their models and tech being just “kinda mid” and not really that useful their stock values will collapse (because they are then just losing billions a day for nothing) and that would mean that US economy itself is built on sand and we will have a massive collapse. AI might not be a real national security issue, but the AI bubble popping is. Saying AI-Danger is just attempt to cool down and maybe diffuse the bubble instead of popping it.
A.I is an incredibly dangerous existential threat to the species that should absolutely scare any sane person … but that’s not what this is. associating LLMs with AI is pure marketing, stop falling for it.
It’s fear-baiting as marketing. Every week there’s some story about how dangerous or capable AI is. I wouldn’t out it past these companies to stage some event to try and boost hype.
Because he doesn’t control any of the leading vendors and his company is way behind the curve and losing ground fast. Follow the money and the power (control) to fast track understanding of billionaire behaviour.
As he has lost this race, he’ll be backing controls being placed on it, up and until M$ catches up, after which he’ll go suddenly quiet.
AI in cars, if it gets good enough, will replace a third of workers. It looks very close to good enough
AI that the tech bros expect all knowledge workers out
If it gains the ability to form opinions and direct its action for its own benefit, it’s a threat
On the job side if people are idle risk of revolt goes up
Pedo doesn’t get an opinion
