Hating people from different countries for their barbaric culture is. See the commenter above calling themselves enlightened compared to them.

My barrier for enlightenment in this case is the abolition of the death penalty. I absolutely stand behind that and will die on that hill.

Your virtue signaling is blocking progress to a world without this type of barbarism in it.

Hating a culture or religion for its backwards, antiquated attitude to people being different is not racism. Islam is not a race nor a country.

At most it would be islamophobia, but rightfully pointing out shortcomings of a culture or religion hardly falls into the phobia category.

It kinda is, if it’s based off of anbundiffernetiated stereotype of adherents of the religion.

I’m going to assume that you don’t have any problems with Alevi muslims, the Hui, and probably fine with Muslims from Indonesia too.

But by focusing on an incorrect stereotype, well if you feel better giving it another name: bully for you. But racism is basically just a synonym for xenophobia,

An incorrect stereotype you say… So it’s not true that a number of Muslim countries - that is, where religion and governance is merged, therefore these countries are legally, culturally and religiously Muslim - still execute people for being gay, or, in this instance, committing the oh so horrible crime of blasphemy?

It’s not a stereotype, buddy, it’s the reality. Pretty much every single country that is Muslim - and by that I mean the above definition, i.e. state religion being Islam, laws and regulations controlled by religious positions, et cetera - still has these backwards laws. Therefore it isn’t really a stretch to immediately presume whenever such news arrive that yes, it’s one of those countries.

Want this stance to be an incorrect stereotype? Go change those countries in question to stop executing people for the smallest infractions against your imaginary sky daddy. Then we can talk.

So you’re not including culturally and socially Muslim countries which make up a huge proportion of the world’s Muslims?

Indonesia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Türkiye; none of them count as Muslim for you?

Because those countries don’t execute people for blasphemy (even if some have their own human rights problems).
            Nor for being gay.

There are plenty of culturally Christian nations in Africa who have the death penalty for homosexuality. Yet I presume you can see enough variation in Christians across the world to not decide that that is a reality of all Christians. Maybe you’ll claim that since few-no governments are explicitly Christian that it doesn’t count.

But yeah, if you said Islamic theocratic nation, I would agree with you.
But then I think that Indonesia, Uzbekistan, and Türkiye count as Muslim nations.

And also, this is the comment I replied to; not a criticism of theocracy.

Hating a culture or religion for its backwards, antiquated attitude to people being different is not racism. Islam is not a race nor a country.

So all those Muslims from Indonesia, Uzbekistan, Istanbul, and the Alevi, Hui, Kurds, are all included in your comment. And they’re the people I’m saying you’ve been misrepresentating in comments like that.

And just to expand on this a bit more: a person having a religion isn’t the problem. A group of people having a religion isn’t the problem either.

It becomes a problem when said people try to enforce the religion and its rules onto others.

You want to worship a god who tells you to pray 8 times a day? Sure, go for it. You want to follow a religion that tells you not to eat pork? Awesome, more bacon for me. You want your religion’s restrictions - such as, punishing being gay or blasphemy by death? Fuck right off and fuck off some more.
