The Israel lobby wrote itself a dictionary. Governments adopted it, regulators enforced it and police made arrests under it. Then it met a judge who required evidence, and it collapsed in an afternoon.

yeah op is clearly an idiot… oh wait that’s me
every time I ‘add photo’ it uploads it (from file) but then also changes the url, it’s a little weird, this is my first post so meh
fixed now probably anyway, thanks for the heads up
Yeah, you’re not the first to be tripped up by it!
Basically, the ‘URL’ and the ‘Image’ fields are mutually exclusive. Either one of them can be the ‘primary content’ of a post, and you can only have one ‘primary content’. So if you use one, it wipes the other.
There is an alternative though!
If the content preview won’t load for a link, or you otherwise want to set a picture manually, you need to use the ‘Thumbnail URL’ field instead.
A handy way I use is to upload an image in the body field, then cut the URL from there and paste it in the ‘Thumbnail URL’. That way the image is re-hosted on the Lemmy instance, which is probably better than putting in a ‘Thumbnail URL’ pointing to another site.
I ended up using the thumbnail url field, in a backwards kind of way… the same way you mention, by cutting it from the body field, it worked well enough.
The post isn’t perfect, the field with “just a moment” … no idea if that is a source site issue, or just my ignorance again.
It’s not just you, that’s how all previews for that site load for me, too.
I suspect their DDOS protection software/service gets in the way for small platforms, like fediverse instances, while letting major social media platforms straight through.
