    That looks like a few more than 4 hours ;-) Good grief I’d love to have that kind of reserve.

    But also… in what way is a cogen plant equivalent to 4 hours of battery? It takes longer than 4 hours to fire up… at least, the one at UCSC does.

    I’m going to read the article… just had to blab a bit first :-)

    Man… I remember when the Home Depot by my house had a smallish permanent backup generator for under 3K. Sat on a pallet by the door for a year actually getting cheaper.

      My neighbor works at a lumber mill that takes less time to fire up their cogen plant on scrap wood than 4 hours. IDK what they’re doing at UCSC, probably filling out safety forms for 3-1/2 hours.

        LOL yeah that would not surprise me… although IIRC it’s natural gas and at least some of that time is what it takes to spin the turbine up/down. Probably something where the size of the thing and its design matters. But I’m just guessing, I asked but it was run by a different department and my contact didn’t know the details.
