I’m almost 100% sure the printer works with Cups already
This is the kind of task where LLM generated code kinda makes sense… Its not hard, there’s no real new engineering, its just time consuming and boring work.
Outside of the horrifying environmental, plagiarism, mental and physical harm concerns that GenAI has; This is a really neat use-case for LLMs. Building niche tools that require a narrow yet deep knowledge base.
Yeah, the bar is on the floor now and you can just do things like this now without necessarily being a wizard. A little tenacity, and a lot of taste goes a long way. They might be a little rough around the edges, but so many little impactful tools I’ve built this way have come in handy. And I am a wizard.
Nice! I’ve an ML-1710 that is sitting in a closet that I’d love to get properly working on macOS. I’ve tried with SPLIX and followed the directions to the letter to install the drivers, but it just doesn’t stick, in that I can only manage to get one print queue through the device for each time the computer is turned on. I gave up and repaired a junked Epson and put that into service, but I really prefer the formar printer for making line tenplates.
