      Oh my god I’ve always suspected this was how it worked and never bothered to look it up

      I learned something today!

      ~actually I learned a bunch of things today but I’m excited for this one. Did you know beluga whales eat 30-60kg of fish per day? I learned that too~

      Some smells taken longer to smell than others. Larger molecules take longer to absorb and be smelled properly. The slower nasal passage smells these smells better and the more open nasal passage smells faster absorbing smells like alcohol.

    we actually have two nostrils because the brain is comparing the two air samples gathered from each nostril and discarding the worse one

    For no other reason than to show how my mind wanders, I thought, it’s something about the bisymmetry of our bodies and how the cells divide… then I wondered if “bisymmetry” is a word… then I remembered that Tom Cruise’s two front teeth are offset so one tooth is in the middle of his face, for some reason.

      My teeth have been like that ever since I had braces as a teenager. You can’t really tell without looking much more carefully than anyone ever would face-to-face, though.
