It requires more technique than athleticism, but yeah. Sometimes you see it from players with a weak foot so bad they’d rather do something stupid like this with their strong foot than touch the ball with their weak foot, but mostly it’s used to show off.

It was originally due to a head injury and concussion but now they keep wearing it for protection. All that diving a goalkeeper does, they take a lot of impacts to the head.
