    It’s English. There are sane languages who knows to call them lilac-onion, lilac-cabbage. Tho your yellow ones… They get to be called red - because it is a good deep dark orange dye if you boil the outer layers. (For example for Easter Eggs).

      German chiming in as well, we call the onions “rote Zwiebeln” and red cabbage is Rotkohl.

      Which language are you referring to? And what is the cultural importance of these vegetables in the area where it’s spoken?

      In Dutch they are called “rode ui” literally red onion. It’s not just English. In Japanese and Hindi they are also called red onions.
